
Crookston - Sister Jane Frances Sullivan, 73, died Tuesday, September 30, 1997 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 3 at 10:30 at Sacred Heart Chapel at Mount St. Benedict Monastery in Crookston with Monsignor Roger Grundhaus officiating. Honorary casketbearers were Sister Alextine Braun, Sister Lois Spors, Sister Anne Marie Geray, Sister Mary Ann Welsch, Sister Evelyn Strei and Sister Vivian Petersen. Interment was at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery. The Stennes Funeral Home of East Grand Forks was in charge of the arrangements.
Frances Catherine Sullivan was born on a farm near Waubun, the daughter of Timothy and Bertha (Weaver) Sullivan. After receiving her elementary and secondary education at Waubun public schools, she entered the Benedictine Community at Mount Saint Benedict in 1945. As a professed sister, she received her education through the College of St. Theresa in Winona and by attending numerous classes and workshops offered in St. Paul, Duluth and Collegeville.
Sister Jane Frances taught in parochial schools in Bemidji, Red Lake Falls, Thief River Falls, Detroit Lakes, Mahtomedi and Osseo. When she retired from teaching in 1980, she became involved in pastoral care. She visited the sick at St. John's Hospital and the elderly homebound in Browerville. Since her return to the Mount St. Benedict Monastery in 1986, she gave comfort and attention to the elderly sisters in the Health Care Center at the Mount.
Sister Jane Frances is survived by four sisters, Alice (Joseph) Salentiny of Dundee, Blanche (Laurence) Salentiny of Fulda, Margaret (Paul) Sheehan of St. Cloud and Mary (Herman) Rassel of Mahnomen; one brother, Michael Sullivan of Andover; many nieces and nephews; and members of Mount St. Benedict Monastery.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John Sullivan and Timothy Sullivan Jr.
