
Thief River Falls -- Elvester Stromberg, 85, died on Tuesday, August 25, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls on Saturday, August 29. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Elvester Sinclaire Stromberg was born on December 23, 1912 at Nekoma, ND, to the late Carl and Gustava (Rafteseth) Stromberg. He grew up in the Rosewood area where he was confirmed at the Rindahl Church and attended the Rosebank School.
On November 23, 1941 he was united in marriage to Edna Marion Gilchrist at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. Elvester worked for the L.B. Hartz Store in Thief River Falls and then moved to Karlstad where they owned and operated the Hartz store. They moved to Seattle, WA, where he was employed at a grocery store for 20 years before moving back to Thief River Falls in 1981 when he retired and where they have since resided.
Elvester loved to hunt, fish and garden.
He is survived by one sister, Myrtle (Ray) Johnson of Thief River Falls; step-sisters: Alice Brubakken, Thief River Falls, Esther Brubakken, Hoople, ND, Lucille Bergman, Grand Forks, ND, and a sister-in-law, Fran Stromberg of Grygla; step-brothers, Arnold (Marion) Hanson, Grafton, ND, Harold (Mert) Hanson, St. Charles, MO, Harvey Hanson (Venise) Hanson of Thief River Falls, and John (Joyce) Hanson of Pine River.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, who died on October 22, 1997 and two brothers Clifford and Clarence.
Funeral arrangements were with Green Funeral Home.
The organist/soloist was Grace Hammer. The selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "On Eagles Wings". The congregational hymn was "Amazing Grace". Honorary casketbearers were family and friends attending the funeral. Casketbearers were John Hanson, Harvey Hanson, Derwood Lund, Dana Stromberg, Eric Stromberg, and John Stromberg.
