Waseca - Corie C. Stortroen, 98, died Thursday, February 17, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Waseca with Rev. Roger W. Haug officiating. Casketbearers were Corie's grandsons, Mark Daehlin, Jonathan Daehlin, Daniel Daehlin, David Rieck, Peter Rieck, Brett Stortroen and Jeff Stortroen. Honorary casketbearers were her granddaughters, Cheryl Dunham, Julie Rieck, Lori McNulty, Leslie Rice and Lisa Daehlin. Burial was in Our Savior's Cemetery in Dalton. The Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca was in charge of the arrangements.
Corie C. Jameson was bon on September 20, 1901 in Waseca county, the daughter of Knute and Margit (Hagen) Jameson. She was baptized at North Waseca Lutheran Church on October 20, 1901 and confirmed in 1914 at Waseca Norwegian Lutheran Church. She attended rural Waseca County School and graduated from Waseca High School in 1919. In 1924, Corie graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield where she was active in drama, speech and journalism. She taught high school English at Middle River from 1924 to 1926.
On June 16, 1926, she married Rev. Albert Stortroen at the English Lutheran Church in Waseca by Rev. Ivar Ramseth. The couple served churches in Middle River (1926-31), Mahnomen (1931-45) and Amery, WI (1945-54). Following her husband's death, Corie worked at Luther College in Decorah, IA and at Augsburg Publishing House in Minneapolis.
She was always active in church and was a Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, Ladies Aid member and served as an officer at the circuit, district and national levels for 20 years. Corie also enjoyed sewing, knitting, traveling, writing and giving speeches.
She had lived at Maple Terrace in Waseca for several years before moving to the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook in 1996. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Waseca.
Corie is survived by two daughters, Valeria (Rev. Robert) Daehlin of Stillwater and Solveig Rieck of Columbus, WI; one son, Luther Stortroen of Overland, KS; one daughter-in-law, June Stortroen of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1954; one son, James Stortroen; one grandson, Barry Rieck; her parents; two brothers, Carl and Joe Jameson; and four sisters, Jennie Paulson, Minnie Broughton, Tena Hanson and Agnes Schoenrock. A00003B2000FB23
