
Thief River Falls - Edna "Gil" Stromberg, 80, died Wednesday, October 22, 1997 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 25 at the Green Funeral Chapel in Thief River Falls with Reverend William Kerr officiating. Grace Hammer provided the special music. Casketbearers were Dana Stromberg, Mark Lund, Bert Crane, John Stromberg, Derwood Lund, John Hanson and Eric Stromberg. Honorary casketbearers were Edna's family and friends attending the service. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery.
Edna Marian Gilchrist was born April 10, 1917 at Forest River, ND, the daughter of James and Nellie (Steen) Gilchrist. She was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Ardoch, ND. Edna graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936.
On November 23, 1941 Edna was united in marriage to Elvester Stromberg at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. The couple owned and operated the LB Hartz Store in Karlstad. They moved to Seattle, WA and lived there for 24 years before moving back to Thief River Falls in 1980 where they have since resided.
She enjoyed needlework and gardening.
Edna is survived by her husband, Elvester of Thief River Falls; two brothers, Clyde (Erma) Shumway of Park Rapids and James (Barbara) Steen of Duluth; two sisters, Eleanor (Joe) McKinstray of Belleville, IL and Phyllis (Derwood) Lund of Effie; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle (Ray) Johnson of Thief River Falls and Fran Stromberg of Fourtown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
