Thief River Falls - Laurel Stephenson, 81, died Thursday, April 23, 1998 at his home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30 at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Grace Hammer will provide the special music. Burial will be held in the Goodridge Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 29) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Laurel Stephenson was born on October 23, 1916 to Melvin and Margaret (Richards) Stephenson at Goodridge. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Goodridge. Laurel worked with his family at the Goodridge Cafe until 1932 when he began farming in Goodridge township. He later worked at Sjulson Turkey Farm in St. Hilaire. Laurel then moved to Thief River Falls and worked at Arctic Cat Enterprises until his retirement in 1967. He continued to live in Thief River Falls until the time of his death.
He enjoyed reading, walking and visiting with friends and family. He especially loved children and enjoyed being around them.
Laurel is survived by one sister, Marjorie Teigland of Thief River Falls; eight nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Muriel Newton; two nephews and one niece.
