Nellie A. Stensgaard, 89

Thief River Falls - Nellie A. Stensgaard, 89, died Saturday, May 30, 1998 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Galen Sylvester officiating. Judith Lawrence was the soloist, and Joyce Halbasch was the organist. Burial was in Salem Cemetery at Wolverton. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Nellie Amanda Nordling was born on April 6, 1909 in Wolverton, the daughter of Oscar and Selma (Olson) Nordling. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church at Wolverton and attended school there, graduating in 1927.

In June of 1931 she graduated from the Physician's Hospital Nurse's Training School in Thief River Falls. She later worked at Oakland Park Sanitorium and at a hospital in Seattle, WA. She served as a private nurse for the Bing Crosby family and also worked for Dr. Lynde in Thief River Falls. She retired from Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

On December 5, 1940 Nellie was united in marriage to Hans Stensgaard in Thief River Falls. The couple moved to Hanford, WA. They returned to Thief River Falls in 1945.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, baking and quilting.

Nellie is survived by one daughter, Nancy Marinac of Rochester; one grandson; three sisters, Hazel Johnson of Fergus Falls, Francis Holechek of Breckenridge and Edith Holechek of Coeur d'Alene, ID; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hans; parents; son-in-law, Bill Marinac; one brother, Selmer Nordling; and four sisters, Alice Soliem, Ann Corneliuson, Esther Bakke and Judith Nellermoe.
