
Argyle - Lloyd "Bud" Steffen, 79, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 5, at our Saviors Free Lutheran Church in Argyle. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Argyle with Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren in charge of the arrangements.
Lloyd Vernon Steffen was born on October 7, 1921 at Argyle, the son of Carl and Anna (Knitter) Steffen. He was raised in Wanger township of Marshall county where he attended country school. Lloyd graduated from Argyle High School.
On October 31, 1942, he married Mary Jane Wilson in Stephen. The couple made their home in the Argyle area where Lloyd farmed. He also worked as a salesman/partsman at Amundgaard Implement in Argyle. After retiring from farming in the 1970's, Lloyd did carpentry work until the late 1980's. He was also a substitute rural mail carrier. Mary Jane died on March 31, 1979.
On November 11, 1986, he married Marie Berggren at Argyle where the couple made their home.
Bud was a member of the Argyle Lions and Argyle Commercial Club.
He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bowling, sporting events and in his later years, traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; a daughter, Sharon LaBine of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Robert (Denise) Berggren of Mason City, Iowa, Buddy (Cindy) Berggren of Soudan and Paul Berggren of Strandquist; three stepdaughters, Barb (Gary) Lewis of Prior Lake, Claudia Berggren of Wannaska and Lacina Berggren of Detroit Lakes; 10 step-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys (E.W. Solyst of Kerkhoven; his mother-in-law, Judith Kleinvachter of Karlstad; five sisters-in-law; three nieces; and a nephew.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane; a sister, Ruth Johnson; and a brother, Harold. A00003B2000FB07
