Herbert Stauffenecker, 70

Greenbush - Herbert D. Stauffenecker, 70, died Friday, July 11, 1997 at the Veterens Administration Hospital in Fargo, ND following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Mitch Walski was the organist; Jeanne Novacek, the songleader; Jerome and Dee Burkel and Jane Harders, the Eucharistic ministers; Murray Hjelle and Noah Novacek, the servers and Ernie Stauffenecker, the reader. The casketbearers were Herbert's nephews and niece, Ron Witzman, Warren Witzman, Gary Witzman, Ernie Stauffenecker, Dale Witzman, Lonnie Stauffenecker, Jim Stauffenecker and Linda Blumer. Burial was in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Cemetery in Greenbush. The Collins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Herbert Donald Stauffenecker was born to Ernest and Rose (Kipka) Stauffenecker on March 13, 1927 at Greenbush. He was baptized and confirmed at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush where he was a life-long member. He grew up and attended school in the Greenbush community. Herb served with the United States Army from April of 1946 until April of 1947, serving in Japan. Following his discharge from service, he returned to the Greenbush community and since has resided on the family farm. He farmed with his brothers and also was employed at Polaris Industries for over 10 years. He was a member of the Greenbush American Legion Post and of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a long-time member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He loved music and was an avid collector of taxidermy.

Herb is survived by one brother, Eugene of Greenbush; one sister, Evelyn Witzman of Biwabik; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Christian, LeRoy, Clarence, Floyd, and Lloyd in infancy.
