Fosston - Hilma Spray, 86, died Thursday, September 23 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 27 at Fosston Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Swenson officiating. Casketbearers were Todd Spray, David Spray, Mark Roberts, Paul Roberts, Marvin Hanson and Mark Carey. Honorary casketbearers included relatives, friends and the staff and residents of First Care Nursing Home. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, rural McIntosh. The Carlin Hoialmen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hilma Caroline Hanson was born on January 23, 1913 north of Trail, the daughter of Dr. H.O. and Clara J.O. (Hanson) Hanson. She attended school in Middle River.

On November 23, 1929 she was united in marriage to Alden V. Spray at Crookston. During the 1950s, Hilma worked at Peterson Biddick, Land O'Lakes and Jung's Bakery, all in Thief River Falls. After moving to Fosston, she was employed as a cook by Sampson's Board and Care, Johnson's Board and Care and Potvin's Midway Care Center. She had also been a cook at the Northeast House in northeast Minneapolis. Alden died on February 20, 1981. Hilma had been a resident of First Care Nursing Home since April of 1999.

Hilma was a member of the Church of Christ in Nevis but had made the Fosston Baptist Church her church home for the past 25 years.

Her hobbies included baking, cooking and making quilts.

Hilma is survived by one son, Alden C. (Mary Lou) of Gonvick; one daughter, Carol (Earl) Roberts of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Oliver C. Hanson of McIntosh; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one infant great-granddaughter, one infant sister and one brother. A00003B1999SP29
