Violet Spilde, 87

Thief River Falls - Violet Spilde, 87, died Monday, November 23, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 28 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls with Pastor Merrill Kindall officiating. Helen Dahlstrom will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Evadell Tangquist. Casketbearers will be Alton Spilde, Philip Haider, Harold Hilde, Duane Rounander, Bill Walters and Curt Nordling. Burial will be in Eidsvold Cemetery in Deerwood township of Kittson county.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 27 at the Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls and at the church for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Violet Amanda Johnson was born on April 15, 1911 in Kennedy, the daughter of Carl and Selma (Mylerberg) Johnson. She was baptized in the Mission faith and attended rural public school near Kennedy.

Violet was united in marriage to Selmer Spilde on December 1, 1934 at Halma. The couple farmed near Halma until 1966 when they moved to Thief River Falls. Selmer died on September 10, 1967. Violet continued to make her home in Thief River Falls and was employed at Valley Home.

Violet attended the Evangelical Covenant Church and was active in church functions at both the Eidsvold Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Covenant Church.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

Violet is survived by one brother, Glen (Mathis) Johnson of Kent, WA; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Brevik of Karlstad and Esther Sevre of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Winford Johnson and Leonard Johnson; and one sister, Stella Erickson.
