Magda Spilde, 91

Warren - Magda Spilde, 91, died August 21, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.

Magda Emily Silnes was born on June 1, 1905, in Halma, the daughter of Torris and Gjertine (Folland) Silnes. She was raised in Halma. She attended and graduated from Alvarado High School, Normal Training and Moorhead State University. She taught at area schools. On November 18, 1939, she was united in marriage to Elmer Spilde at Halma. They made their home in Warren. She taught at the Warren Public School. Elmer died on April 15, 1965.

She was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Stars - Worthy Matron. Magda was named Marshall County Teacher of the Year.

Magda was always ready to help her family. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was known as "little Grandma". Magda was busy with her handwork. She was known for her spritz, lefsa and rootbeer floats.

She is survived by four children, Phyllis (James) Moos of West Fargo, ND, James (Jo) of Battle Lake, Gjeneve (Lee) Hopkinson of Minneapolis, and Elizabeth (Dennis) Anderson of Elbow Lake. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and five sisters.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Warren.
