
Minneapolis - Owen Sparley, 80, died Monday, December 28, 1998 in Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 5, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Heritage Lutheran Church in Apple Valley. Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 12 in Oak Park Lutheran Cemetery in Oklee. The Delmore Funeral Home of Robbinsdale was in charge of the arrangements.
Owen Sparley was born on July 3, 1918 in Eau Claire, WI, the son of Edward O. and Agnes O. (Solberg) Sparley. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Oregon, Colorado and Alaska. Following his discharge at Fort Snelling after the war he was united in marriage to Stella Christine Ringstrand on January 27, 1946 in Minneapolis. The couple made there home in Alma, WI and then Rochester before returning to the Minneapolis area where they settled in Richfield. Owen managed the Black Angus Restaurant in downtown Minneapolis for many years. After his retirement in 1981 the couple moved to Ocala, FL where they lived for 11 years. After returning to the midwest they lived in Cottage Grove and then Robbinsdale. Owen finally resided at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis.
He was an active member of a Lutheran church.
Owen is survived by two sons, Rev. Steven (Janice) Sparley of Oklee, and William Sparley of Rockford; five grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Pfefferkorn of Platteville, WI, Evelyn Jungerberg of Rockford, IL, and Helen (John) Lindrud of Eau Claire, WI; two stepsisters, Katherine and Marie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella; his parents; one stepbrother, John Steinberg; and two stillborn sons.
