
Hull, IA - Harold A. South, 94, died Friday, January 8, 1999 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, IA.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 11 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull, IA with Reverend Gerald Aamot and his granddaughter, Bishop April Larson officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hull. Arrangements were with the Oolman Funeral Home of Hull, IA.
Harold A. South was born on April 6, 1904 in the Alexandria area, the son of William and Anna Mae (Geerlings) South. He was raised in Minnesota and Michigan.
On October 23, 1925, he was married to Clara Mae Yntema in Forest Grove, MI. In 1931, the couple moved from Michigan to Goodridge where they farmed for 46 years. Harold was also a carpenter who specialized in kitchen remodeling. In 1978, the couple retired and moved to Hull, IA. Clara died on June 22, 1989. Harold became a resident of Pleasant Acres Care Center in February of 1995.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. While living in Goodridge he was active in church and community affairs, serving on the school board and the Soil Conservation board.
Harold is survived by one daughter, Aleta (Joseph) Ulring of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Jeanette Geving of Zeeland, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and eight brothers and sisters.
