
Fargo, ND - Myrtle E. Sorum, 87, died Thursday, August 12, 1999 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Rosie Carr was the soloist, accompanied by organist Nancy Christian. Casketbearers were Myrtle's nephews and friends. Interment was in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery near Fertile. The Dobmeier Funeral Home of Barnsville was in charge of the arrangements.
Myrtle Tollerud was born on September 11, 1911 in rural Fertile, the daughter of Arnie and Josephine (Skauge) Tollerud. She grew up and attended school in Fertile, graduating from Fertile High School in 1928. She attended Mayville College in Mayville, ND where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in North Dakota schools in Balta, Silva and Leverich.
In 1939 she married Howard McDaniel in Rugby, ND where they made their home and owned and operated a cafe. Howard died in 1945. For the next 20 years Myrtle worked at Bailey Drug Store in Rugby.
On June 2, 1966 she married Jorgen Sorum in Rugby. The couple made their home in Guelph, ND until 1970 when they moved to Thief River Falls. Myrtle worked at Corner Drug Store for 18 years. In 1995 she became a resident of Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, and in May of this year moved to Elim Home in Fargo, ND.
Myrtle was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Thief River Falls. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rugby, ND where she served as district president.
Survivors include her husband, Jorgen of Fargo, ND; one stepson, Gary (Susan) Sorum of Fargo, ND; one stepdaughter, Karen (Tom) McConn of Humble, TX; and seven step-grandchildren.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and eight brothers. A00003B1999AG18
