Merl Sorenson, 78

Grygla - Merl Sorenson, 78, died Saturday, October 21, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, October 25) at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Paul Knutson officiating. Berniece Jelle will be the organist, and the soloist will be Desiree Sletten. Casketbearers will be Gary Sletten, Verne Sletten, Jerry Sorenson, Roger Sorenson, Leland Thomas and Christofer Wells. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion and VFW Posts. Burial will be in Valle Cemetery in Benville township of Beltrami county.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Merl R. Sorenson was born on April 19, 1922 in Waukegan, Ill., the son of Martin and Hannah (Tiegland) Sorenson. He grew up in Grygla where he attended Grygla Elementary School.

On February 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mildred Sletten at St. Louis, Mo. From 1952 until 1982, Merl was employed at Johnson Motors-OMC in Waukegan.

Merl was a member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening, cutting wood, fishing and the outdoors.

Merl is survived by his wife; a daughter, Elaine Sorenson (James Wells) of Spring Grove, Ill.; two sons, Roger M. Sorenson of Beach Park, Ill. and Jerry L. (Cathy) Sorenson of Wheatland, Wisc.; and seven grandchildren.
