
Oslo - Elton W. Solem, 64, died Tuesday, September 23 , 1997 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 26 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Oslo. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery in East Grand Forks. The Stennes Funeral Home of East Grand Forks was in charge of the arrangements.
Elton Solem was born July 31, 1933 in Oslo, the son of William and Esther (Olson) Solem. He grew up in Oslo and graduated from Oslo High School in 1951. He worked for area farms.
He married Irene Gonsorowski in East Grand Forks on March 22, 1953. They made their home in East Grand Forks where he worked for Robertson Lumber Company. He worked for Jerome Dunlevy Company from 1956 to 1973. He drove over the road trucks from 1973 to 1977. They moved to Oslo in 1977 where they owned and operated Home 20 Cafe until 1988. Irene died in August of 1992. Elton then worked for area farms and Gowan Construction.
Elton is survived by one daughter, Elta (Kenneth) Stalboerger of Thief River Falls; four sons, Kevin (Carol) of Grand Forks, ND, Clark of Oslo, Robin (Paulla) of East Grand Forks and Tracy (Blanca) of Grand Forks, ND; nine grandchildren; special friend Florence Elden of Oslo; three brothers, Donald and Gaylord, both of Oslo, and Ralph of Baxter; and one sister, Ila Lind of Oslo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Irene.
