Marie Soiney, 85

Redwood Falls - Marie Soiney, 85, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Tuesday, December 21, 1999 at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, December 23 at 2 p.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Private burial will be held at a later date. The Nelson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Marie Rose McElheney was born on September 7, 1914 in Bow Island, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Thomas and Martha (Geatz) McElheney. She grew up and attended schools in North Dakota and Minnesota.

On September 21, 1933 she was united in marriage to Leonard Singer at Rhoda. The couple farmed and owned businesses in Trail, Rolland and Oklee. Marie also worked as a linotype operator for the Oklee Herald. Marie later moved to Thief River Falls where she worked at several retail stores and was manager of the Thief River Falls Hotel for a few years.

She married Joe Soiney in November of 1964. Marie moved to Redwood Falls in 1993 and lived at Johnson's Park Place from 1995 until 1999. She was a member of the Vet's Auxiliary and St. Catherine's Catholic Church.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Joy Rhoden (co-partner William Moeglein) of Walker and Jan (Ralph) Revier of Redwood Falls; seven grandchildren; one sister, Tracy (Ed) Jensen of Mesa, AZ; and two brothers, Otto Arnold of Everett, WA and Leo Arnold of Grand Forks, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; four brothers, John, Archie, William and Fred; and one sister, Rose Brunk.
