River Falls - Orvis Sletten, 70, died Tuesday, December 7, 1999
at his home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 10 at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Clarence Johnson officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist and soloist. Casketbearers were Ronald Sletten, Gene Sletten, Daniel Sletten, Rodney Sletten, Rodney Burns, Dennis Rantenen and Ronald Kotrba. Burial was in Telemarken Cemetery in Kratka township of Pennington county.
Orvis Magnus Sletten was born on April 2, 1929 in Grygla, the son of Olaf and Mabel (Tronson) Sletten. He grew up near Grygla and attended country school. Orvis lived and worked on the family farm, helped on the neighbor's farm and developed an interest in auto body repair.
On June 18, 1955 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Runnestrand in Thief River Falls. They made their home in Thief River Falls until 1972 when they moved to Smiley township of Pennington county. Orvis continued in the auto body business and worked for Forkenbrock Motor Co., Wiener Motors, Thomas Motors and Michael Motors. After retiring from Kayser Auto Body in 1991, he continued to reside in Smiley township.
He enjoyed gardening and was most proud of his vegetables. He also like to hunt fox and deer and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Orvis is survived by his wife; one daughter, Darlene (Bob) Houle of Plummer; four grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Maidment of Milwaukee, WI and Bernice Sistad of Grygla; four brothers, Marvin and Wilford (Phyllis), both of Thief River Falls, Bill (Eunice) of Stacey and Clarence (Marilyn) of Plummer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ardith Stenen; five brothers, Melford, Harvey, Orin, Willard and Howard.
