
Leona Slawson, 79
Greenbush - Leona Slawson, 79, died Thursday, March 9, 2000 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 13 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Don Braukmann officiating. David Schafer was the reader, and Myrna Cwikla, Cindy Rath and Kent Mertes were the eucharistic ministers. Special music was provided by Anna Schafer, Mary Kingsbury and Mitch Walski. Giftbearers and servers were Leona's grandchildren, Shawn, Arthur, Kayla, Hallie, Tessie, Katerina, Kassie, Kent Jr. and Kirstie.
Casketbearers were Neil Novacek, Gabriel Rath, Dave Cwikla, John Wilebski Jr., James Wilebski and Jacob Rath. Interment was in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Greenbush. The Collins Funeral Home of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Leona Mary Kelly was born on July 13, 1920 at Leo near Greenbush, the daughter of Fred and Emma (Kovar) Kelly. She grew up and attended school in the Leo and Greenbush communities and was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith.
She met her future husband while working on the Kiene Farm near Kennedy, and on April 14 1947, Leona was united in marriage to Arthur Slawson at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush. Since their marriage, the couple has made their home in Greenbush.
She was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she was active in church affairs.
Leona is survived by her husband, Arthur; one son, Larry (Pam) of Greenbush; twin daughters, Jane (Steve) Kozitka of Ogema and Judy (Kent) Mertes of Champlin; nine grandchildren; one sister, Doris Wilebski of Greenbush; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ernest, Howard, Arthur and Wilfred; and three sisters, Helen, Margaret and one in infancy. A00003B2000MR15
