
Thief River Falls - Myrtle Skibicki, 72, died Wednesday, November 19, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 22 at 1 p.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Dennis Wieland and Deacon John Eisbrener presiding. Mike Melby was the organist and the Resurrection Choir provided special music. Cantors were Father Joe Richards and Judy Dupree. Casketbearers were Gordon Tollefson, Chenney Hruby, Vern Rogalla, Don Srnsky, Richard Merrill and Mike Skibicki. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Myrtle Jane Bye was born on December 28, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Tina (Larson) Bye. She attended rural school in Star township of Pennington County and grew to adulthood on the family farm in Star township.
She was united in marriage to Jerome Skibicki on November 4, 1943 in Thief River Falls. The couple lived and farmed in Cloverleaf township of Pennington County until they moved to Thief River Falls in 1974. Myrtle worked at Land O'Lakes from 1968 until her retirement in 1990.
She worked with the Mavie 4-H club and was a former Eagles Auxiliary member. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Myrtle enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband Jerome; five sons, Gary (Linda) of Duluth, Wesley (Linda) of Thief River Falls, Steven of Salol, Duane (Becky) of Warroad and Dean of Badger; four daughters, Shirley (Edwin) Hruby of Audubon, Evonne (Phil) Wold of Crookston, Arlene (Gary) Novak of St. Hilaire and Connie (Mike) Laufman of Warroad; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister Mildred Srnsky of St. Hilaire; and several nieces and nephews.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Trenton Skibicki; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Bye; and one sister, Edith Tveitbakk.
