Jerome "Joe" Skibicki

Thief River Falls - Jerome "Joe" Skibicki, 77, died Saturday, December 5, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, December 9) at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Dennis Wieland and Deacon John Eisbrener officiating. Kristie LaSalle will be the organist. Judy Dupree and Kathy Kainz will be the cantors. Casketbearers will be Ray Aandal, Lowell Hanson, Chenney Hruby, Eldon Johnson, Alan Newton and Gerald Wayne. Military honors will be accorded by the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW Posts. Burial will be held at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation was held Tuesday, December 8 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Jerome John Skibicki was born on February 27, 1921 in Kratka township of Pennington county, the son of Stephen and Kate (Beringer) Skibicki. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and grew up and attended school in Kratka and Cloverleaf townships. Joe worked on area farms until he entered the U.S. Army. Following his discharge he returned to the Goodridge area where he farmed.

On November 4, 1943 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Bye at Thief River Falls. The couple lived in the rural Goodridge area. In 1952 they moved to Cloverleaf township where they farmed until 1974 when they moved to Thief River Falls. Joe also worked as a logger and was employed at Land O'Lakes Elevator. He retired from Pillsbury Potato Processing in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 62. He later worked for area farmers.

Joe was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, American Legion, Eagles and served as supervisor in Cloverleaf township.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, restoring tractors and woodworking.

Joe is survived by four daughters, Shirley (Edwin) Hruby of Audubon, Evonne (Phil) Wold of Crookston, Arlene (Gary) Novak of St. Hilaire, and Connie (Mike) Laufman of Warroad; five sons, Gary (Linda) Skibicki of Duluth, Wesley (Linda) Skibicki of Thief River Falls, Duane (Becky) Skibicki of Warroad, Steven Skibicki of Salol, and Dean Skibicki of Badger; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Agnes Corey of Lewistown, MT, Dorothy "Dodo" Skibicki of Concord, CA, and Mary (Wayne) Carlson of Sunnyvale, CA; and two brothers, Pat (Irene) Woods of Santa Rosa, CA and Clarence "Arnie" (Helen) of St. Hilaire.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle, on November 19, 1997; one grandson, Trenton Skibicki; his parents; three sisters, Sarah and Louise Skibicki and Leah Burtness; and two brothers, Vincent "Beans" Skibicki and Stanley "Butch" Skibicki.
