
Thief River Falls - Irene Sjoholm, 81, died Tuesday, September 9, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Reverend Marcia Sylvester officiating. Grace Hammer provided special music for the service. Burial was held at Greenwood Cemetery.
Irene Spooner was born on November 5, 1915 in Donaldson, the daughter of Frank and Ida (Bachloz) Spooner. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended rural school at Donaldson.
On November 3, 1940 Irene was united in marriage to Emil Sjoholm in Thief River Falls. The couple farmed for many years in North township northeast of Thief River Falls. In 1969, they retired and moved into Thief River Falls. Emil died in 1989.
Irene was employed at various places in Thief River Falls including Oakland Park Nursing Home, Land O'Lakes, Northern Pride and Arctic Cat for 11 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and its Elizabeth Circle. Irene enjoyed sewing, yardwork and working with flowers.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Marlys Sjoholm of Strathcona; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; son, Donald; grandson, Dean Sjoholm; her parents; three brothers; and five sisters.
