
Grygla - Arvid Sistad, 75, died Tuesday, February 25, 1997 at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh. Arrangements were with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 28 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Roberta Johnson officiating. Burial was in St. Olaf Cemetery of Valley Township, Marshall County.
Casketbearers were all of Arvid's grandchildren. Honorary casketbearers were all of Arvid's friends.
Arvid Preston Sistad was born on December 25, 1921 in Benville township, Beltrami County, the son of the late Joel and Mina (Bye) Sistad. He was baptized and confirmed in Valley Lutheran church and attended Sandsmark rural public school. Arvid worked at the Grygla Co-op Creamery. He was united in marriage to Bernice Sletten on September 22, 1956 in Thief River Falls. In 1961 the couple moved to Valley Township, Marshall County where Arvid and Bernice raised their family and farmed. Arvid had worked at the creamery for 39 years. He lived on the farm with Bernice until illness forced him to spend five months at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.
He loved farming and everything associated with it. He enjoyed being around all of his family and friends. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla.
He is survived by wife Bernice; children Wallace (Pauline), Gerald (Cheryl), and David (Virginia), all of Grygla, Dale (Sherry) Sletten of Wasilla, AK, Gail (Ronnie) Kotrba of Goodridge, Debbie Hanson of Thief River Falls, Carol (Merlin) Klamar of Gatzke and Jody (Mike) Kirkeide of Greenbush; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers Marvin (Alice) of Erskine, Palmer of St. Paul, and Stewart (Laudy) of Grygla; sisters Hazel Bjorge of Buxton, ND, Alma Foss of Mentor, and Adeline Sletten of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Tillie; infant daughter; infant son Michael; grandchildren Scott and Rhonda Sistad; and brother James.
