
Thief River Falls - Joy Sillerud, 77, of Thief River Falls died Monday, June 30, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5 at Zion Lutheran Church with Reverend Gary Johnson officiating. Phyllis Dallager was the organist, and Jan Peterson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Cliff Sillerud, Glen Darst, Todd Hillier, Wayne Christianson, Randy Olson and Chris Haas. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Joy Bernice Olson was born March 6, l920 at St. Thomas, ND to Willie and Clara (Herfindahl) Olson. As a young girl, she moved to a farm near Wannaska where she attended a rural school. Joy was united in marriage to Gordon B. Sillerud on June 30, l940 in Roseau. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Roseau, Greenbush and Warren before moving to Thief River Falls in 1958.
Joy enjoyed reading, baking, fishing, watching baseball and hockey and visiting with family and friends. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly of Okinawa, Japan; three sons, Jerroll (Dayle) of Albuquerque, NM, Jack of Kissimmee, FL and Van (Patricia) of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; one great-grandchild; two brothers, William (Selma) Olson of Grand Junction, CO and Darrell Olson of Hoople, ND; two sisters, Eleanore Christianson of Roseau and Adelyne Borge of Hoople, ND; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in deah by her husband, Gordon, in l982; her parents; three brothers, Milford, Lester and Earl; and two sisters, Beatrice Wesolowski and Inez Hillier.
