
Greenbush - Louis J. Shimpa,76 died Monday, August 21, 2000 at Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 24, at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Rev. Alvin Sather officiating. Darlene Waage was the organist. Vocalists were Rev. Alvin Sather and Lyle and Corrine Mattson. Other musicians included violinist Oniel Foster and pianists Carla Mattson and Darlene Reed. Casketbearers were Chad and Eric Rice, Jeremy Wollmann, Jim Dostal, David Schires and Charley Shimpa. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Barnett township of Roseau county near Greenbush. The Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Louis J. Shimpa was born on May 8, 1924 in Barnett township of Roseau county near Greenbush, the son of Albert and Julia (Kaml) Shimpa. He grew up in Barnett township and attended school there
On October 21, 1950, he married Elvina Wiskow at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Greenbush. Louis farmed his entire life on the same farm and milked cows for more than 50 years. He also worked on the land clearing project during the development of the Oak View Golf Course in Greenbush. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, he worked for Polaris Industries for five years. He also did electrical wiring.
Louis enjoyed hunting and playing cards and horseshoes.
Survivors include his wife, Elvina of Greenbush; three daughters, Susan (Brian) Rice of Pinecreek, Lois (Bill) Wollmann of Beausejour, Manitoba, Canada and Joyce (Jim) Madoll of Greenbush; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Julie Wiskow of Greenbush and Florence (Gayferd) Gustafson of Enumclaw, Wash.; and one sister-in-law.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Albert Jr.; and one sister, Lillian Mattson.
