
Thief River Falls - Nora Shervold, 84, died Friday, October 16, 1998 at her daughter's home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20 at the First Baptist Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Ron Gullman officiating. Judy Johnson was the organist, and Twyla Hicks was the soloist. Casketbearers were Arlen Anderson, Rod Huot, Darrell Johnson, Noel Morkve, Ron Morkve and Ron Winters. Burial was in the West Minnewauken Free Cemetery near Maddock, ND.
Following visitation on Monday at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls a 7 p.m. prayer service was held with Reverend John Wollenzein officiating.
Nora Mabel Morkve was born on January 13, 1914 in Balta, ND, the daughter of Nels and Minnie (Rasmussen) Morkve. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Nora attended school and graduated from a rural Rugby, ND high school. She worked at various jobs in the Minot and Rugby area.
On February 9, 1942 Nora was united in marriage to Oscar A. Shervold in Minot. The couple lived and raised their family in Minot where Nora was employed as a waitress.
In 1960 the couple moved to Grand Forks, ND where she continued to work as a waitress. In 1972 they moved to Thief River Falls. Nora continued to live in Thief River Falls after Oscar's death on September 3, 1994.
Nora enjoyed entertaining and making quilts for friends and loved ones.
Nora is survived by three sons, Richard (special friend Judy Brecke) Shervold of Grand Forks, ND, Ronald "Doc" Shervold of Thief River Falls and Al (Diane) Shervold of Grand Forks, ND; four daughters, Pauline (David) Johnson of Thief River Falls, Nadine (Garry) Hitt of Old Monroe, MO, Darlene (Val) Schill of Thief River Falls and Diane (Duane) Rud of Thief River Falls; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence (Ruth) Morkve of Maddock, ND and Leonard (special friend Mae Humphries) Morkve of Boynton Beach, FL; one sister, Olga (Arne) Anderson of Tacoma, WA; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; parents; and two sisters, Amanda Sanden and Martha "Myrtle" Kanzelman.
