James Sherry, 74

Crookston -- James C. Sherry, 74, of Crookston, and a former long-time Euclid farmer, died early Thursday morning, August 27, 1998 at the Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston. He had entered the Nursing Home this past August 18th.

The funeral service was held on Monday, August 31 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Crookston. Interment was at St. Paul's Cemetery in Euclid.

Jim was born at Tabor on June 20, 1924, the son of James M. and Anna (Marinko) Sherry. He was baptized and confirmed at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Tabor, grew up on the family farm, and attended District 119 school. During World War II Jim served with the U.S. Army Air Force from January 20, 1945 to December 29, 1946, and was stationed in the Philippines. He returned to the area after his discharge and began farming in Euclid township. On October 11, 1950 Jim was united in marriage to Bernice K. Schulz at Euclid. The couple retired from farming in 1985, although Jim continued to help his son Greg on the farm until this past spring. In 1987 Jim and Bernice moved from the farm to a home they purchased in Crookston. Jim was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Euclid, Eagles Aerie #873 at Crookston, and Crookston American Legion Post #20, and VFW Post #1902. Jim's retirement years had meant that he had more time to spend with his grandchildren, watching them grow and "spoiling" them. He also enjoyed dancing with Bernice and listening to "old-time" music. His family and friend will miss him very much.

Loving family members include his wife Bernice, a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jana Sherry of Euclid; and a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Joe Altepeter of Euclid; five grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters-in-law, five sisters and two brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Jim was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Morgan Rae Altepeter, his parents, and two sisters, Ruth Kotrba and Martha Kotrba.
