Mentor - Mabel Seeger, 88, died Saturday, June 12, 1999 at her home on Maple Lake.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 17, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee with Reverend Robert Paulson officiating. Marian Marquis will be the organist, and Donna Sherman and Carolyn Rystad will present a duet. Casketbearers will be Rene Hofstad, Cliff Melby, Jacob Melby, Isaac Melby, John Lerohl and Mark Vettleson. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Oklee.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 16) with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Mabel Irene Rolandson was born on January 30, 1911 in Oklee, the daughter of Andrew and Caroline (Bondy) Rolandson. She grew up in Roland which was named for her family. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended a country school. She worked for her brother, Knute, at the Roland Store for a number of years and then went into the restaurant business for many years in Oklee with her sister, Agnes. Mabel also helped her brother, Art, at his store in Gully.
On April 18, 1938 she was united in marriage to Bill Seeger of Oklee. The couple lived in Oklee and operated Seegers Hardware and Furniture for 35 years.
Mabel and Bill were instrumental in starting and operating Oklee's first recreation and bowling center with partners Alfred and Clara Berg.
Mabel was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and its circles, holding many offices. She was also very active in the March of Dimes and various community activities over the years.
She maintained a close relationship with her family and enjoyed her lake home, garden and flowers.
Mabel is survived by her husband, Bill of Mentor; one son, Charles (Jani) Seeger of Minneapolis; two grandsons; two great grandsons; and one brother, Orvald Rolandson of Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 brothers and sisters. A00003B1999JN16
