Vernon L. Sebade, 78

Thief River Falls - Vernon L. Sebade, 78, formerly of Deer River, died Saturday, March 21, 1998 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at the Carroll Funeral Home in Deer River with Reverend Dwight Rudquist officiating. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Deer River.

Visitation will be held at the Carroll Funeral Home in Deer River on Thursday, March 25 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Vernon Lemont Sebade was born March 6, 1920 in Bloomfield, NE, the son of George and Lucy (Cornish) Sebade. In 1929 he moved with his family to Deer River where he attended school. From 1936 until 1938 he worked in the CCC Camp in Bigfork.

On June 18, 1938 Vernon was united in marriage to Grace M. Bevins in Deer River. From 1944 until 1946 he served in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he graduated third in his class from the Ames State College Diesel School in Ames, IA. Vernon worked for Lakehead Pipeline from 1951 until he retired in 1977. From 1953 until 1961, the couple lived in Viking before returning to Deer River. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1994 where they have since resided.

Vernon enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 275 of Deer River and a lifetime member of VFW Post 2720 in Deer River.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Grace; two daughters, Jeanette (Robert) Nygaard and Carol (Larry) Gagner, both of Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary Jane Bevins, Verla Otremba and Nevla Potocki.
