
Thief River Falls - Bertha Sculthorp, 84, died on Monday, September 8, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 11 at the Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls with Reverend William Kerr officiating. Ida Nordvall will be the organist and Roger Kurrle the solist. Casketbearers will be Bertha's grandchildren &endash; Rodney, Robert, Christine, Shawn and Darin. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Green Funeral Home Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Bertha Fawn Summers was born on October 19. 1912 in Westmoreland, KS, the daughter of Claude and Bertha (Wood) Summers. She attended school in Manhatten, KS and was raised in the Manhatten, KS area.
She was united in marriage to Lewis Sculthorp in Topeka, KS in 1942. The couple lived for a short time in Kansas while Lewis was stationed at Fort Riley. After the service, the couple moved to Fordville, ND where Lewis worked for the Soo Line Railroad. They transferred to Thief River Falls. Lewis died in 1951. Bertha continued to live in Thief River Falls where she worked as a housekeeper for various families and for sometime at the Falls and Avalon Theatres and Green Funeral Home. She also cooked at Inga's Cafe, Kife's Restaurant, Mint Cafe and the bowling alley.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Elwood (Marilyn) Sculthorp of Rush City, OK, Robert (Nancy) of Indianapolis, IN and Dennis (Sandra) of New Hope; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Velma Dehart, Hazel Little and Dimple White, all of Topeka, KS and Nelda Garhardt of Holtan, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis; son, Durwood in infancy; and sister, Iris Barnes.
