Mable Schmit, 78

Trail - Mable Schmit, 78, died Wednesday, July 26 at First Care Hospital in Fosston.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 31 at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail with Rev. Robert Rains officiating. Burial was in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, rural Trail. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Service of Fosston was in charge of the arrangements.

Mable Dorothy Lund was born on August 19, 1921 in Trail, the daughter of Carl and Hilda (Knevelsrud) Lund. She grew up and attended school in Trail and graduated from high school in Gonvick. After high school, she attended nursing school in Duluth and was an Army nurse during World War II. While in the service, she met and married William Turner, and they lived in Colorado and the state of Washington. In the early 1950s, Mable returned to Trail.

On September 26, 1953, she was married to Phillip Schmit at Trail. The couple farmed and raised their family three miles south of Trail.

Mable was a member of Sand Valley Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and VFW Auxiliary Post 6426 of Trail.

She enjoyed flowers, music, dancing, taking long walks and especially taking care of her family.

Mable is survived by her husband, Phillip of Trail; six sons, William Turner of Quincy, Wash., Robert (partner Dorothy McCraw) Turner of Orlando, Fla., Les (Shirley) Schmit of Thief River Falls, Thomas (Chris) Schmit of Kissimmee, Fla., John (Audrey) Schmit of Trial and Peter (Phyllis) Schmit of Shoreview; two daughters, Mary MacBeth of Mokelumne Hill, Calif. and Julie Schmit of California; 17 grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Hughs of Palo Alto, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Hans, Henry, Thor, Martin, Art and Alf; and one sister, Mable. A00003B2000AG02
