Red Lake Falls - Orrie Schmidt, 73, died Wednesday, August 25, 1999 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 28 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Gary Graff officiating. Sarah Bravik was the soloist. Casketbearers were Bill Cassavant, Brent Cassavant, Chuck Schmidt, Gene Skala, Mark Ballingrud and Bob St. Marie. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls. The Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Orrie Gena Strande was born on October 25, 1925 in Gully, the daughter of Ole and Gena (Rustad) Strande. She attended school in Oklee and graduated from high school there. She then moved to Thief River Falls where she was employed at a department store.
On December 8, 1947 she was united in marriage to Charles Schmidt in Thief River Falls. The couple lived in Fargo, ND until 1954 when they moved to Red Lake Falls where they have since made their home. Orrie worked at Tischarts and later at Hanson's Department Store.
Orrie was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Beacons, and the One Fund since it was started. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary and was a den mother for a few years.
She enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining.
Orrie is survived by her husband, Charles of Red Lake Falls; one son, Mike Schmidt of Red Lake Falls; one daughter, Susie Schmidt of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; and one sister, Ione (Kenny) Bergquist of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Gladys Ballingrud. A00003B1999SP01
