
Red Lake Falls - Frank Schafer, 93, died Saturday, December 13, 1997 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Wednesday, December 17 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Gary LaMoine officiating. Marjorie Schafer will be the pianist and April Gervais the organist. Special music will be provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers will be Frank's grandchildren &endash; Jeffrey and Berry Boutain, Lori Schultz, and Michael, Brian, Jill, Carrie, Kathleen, Matthew, Angela and Maribeth Schafer. Honorary casketbearers will be Frank's family and friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Frank Joseph Schafer was born September 8, 1904 at Pearl Lake, the son of John and Mary (Wolf) Schafer. He was raised there and worked in carpentry until 1938 when they moved to the Red Lake Falls area where he has farmed and resided since.
On October 18, 1938 he was married to Anne Linnertz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Frank retired in 1970 but continued to help on the farm until he was 90 years old.
Frank is survived by four sons, Robert (Judy) Schafer and Larry (Candace) Schafer, both of Red Lake Falls, Willard (Barbara) Schafer of Lakeville and Eugene Schafer of Thief River Falls; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anne on October 14, 1946; two children, Alfred Schafer and Margaret Boutain; six brothers, George, Pete, Louis, Bernard, Herbert and John; and two sisters, Sister Ivan Schafer OSB and an infant sister.
