Selma Sauerbrey, 95

Maplewood - Selma Sauerbrey, 95, of Maplewood died Friday, October 17, 1997 at Lakewood Hospital in Stillwater.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 21 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Maplewood with the Reverend Robert Bagley officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Maplewood.

Selma Saastad was born in Holt township on October 5, 1902, the fourth child of Christian and Mary (Dahlman) Saastad. She grew to womanhood on the family farm. She attended the Holt School and the Free Evangelical Mission Church in Holt. Selma spent several years in Detroit, MI and Cleveland, OH where she worked for the Bell Telephone Company before transferring to St. Paul. She retired from Northwestern Bell after 42 years of employment. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers and a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

She was married to George Sauerbrey of Chaska at St. Paul. They moved to Maplewood in 1945 where they continued to make their home. George died on December 24, 1949.

Selma is survived by one son, Robert (Renee) of Maplewood; two grandchildren; one sister, Hermia Doran of South St. Paul; twelve nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and four sisters.
