Roy Sandsmark, 79

Thief River Falls - Roy Sandsmark, 79, died Thursday, January 11, 2001 at his home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Paul Knutson officiating. Joy Nordby was the organist, and the soloist was Marie Anderson. Casketbearers were Orvis Nordby, Leland Thomas, Sheldon Peterson, Dale Wilkens, Jamie McEnelly and Jim Rothstein. Burial was in Valle Cemetery in Benville township of Beltrami county. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Roy Sandsmark was born on May 14, 1921 in Benville township near Grygla, the son of Martin C. and Mathilde (Swenson) Sandsmark. He was baptized in 1921 and confirmed in 1935 at Valle Church at Grygla. He attended Benville Township School at rural Grygla and high school at Goodridge. Throughout his life, Roy farmed the family farm in Benville township with his brothers. During World War II, he worked as an electrician in the shipyards in Seattle, Wash.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla.

Roy is survived by a sister, Sylvia Sorenson of Thief River Falls; two nieces; a nephew; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Clifford, Palmer, Milton and Archie; and a sister, Sharlotte Baasen.
