
Karlstad - Margaret Sandberg, 82, died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at the Valley Eldercare Home in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 1999 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Reverend Mitch Tolpingrud officiating. Kathy Englund was the organist, and the soloist was Everett Englund. Casketbearers were Arnold Englund, Everett Englund, Jim Sollund, Ell Kay Spangrud, Dale Grandstrand and Connie Stallock. Interment was in the Karlstad Cemetery. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.
Margaret Elizabeth Watson was born on January 18, 1917 at Schenecktady, NY, the daughter of David and Mary (Wilson) Watson. As a child she moved with her family to Manitowoc, WI where she grew up and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church there.
Margaret continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Stout at Menomonie, graduating with a degree in home economics. Following graduation, she accepted a teaching job in Karlstad.
On March 6, 1940 Margaret was united in marriage to Douglas Ardine Sandberg at Hallock. The couple made their home in Karlstad where Margaret taught and later worked at Mortenson Grocery Store and Locker Plant. She was also employed for a short while at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center. After Ardine died on May 30, 1987, Margaret continued to make her home in Karlstad until moving to the Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, ND a short time ago.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad where she served in various offices of the church women and on the church council. She taught Sunday school, release time classes and Vacation Bible school. She was also a member of the Kittson County Council on Aging.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Mardene (Clarence) Slaathaug of Grand Forks, ND; one grandson; one sister-in-law; seven nieces, one nephew and several other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
