Alvida Salte, 92

Erskine - Alvida Salte, 92, died on Monday, August 31 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 5 at 2 p.m. at Dovre Free Lutheran Church in Rindahl with Reverend Wes Johanson and Reverend Joel Egge officiating. Meredith Burscheim was the organist. Vocal music was provided by Rachel Ysteboe accompanied by Carol Folden. Casketbearers were Donald Hanson, Philip Mork, Victor Myhre, Helmer Homme, Maurice Myhre and Owen Holmvik. Burial was in Faaberg Lutheran Cemetery in Rindahl. The Mattson Funeral Home of Winger was in charge of the arrangements.

Alvida Holmvik was born on September 10, 1905 in Bear Park township of Polk county near Bejou, the daughter of Sigrid (Noss) and Peter Holmvik. She was baptized and confirmed at Faaberg Lutheran Church in Rindal. Alvida attended Norman County Public School District #58. She attended high school at Lutheran Brethren Schools in Grand Forks, ND, graduating in 1924.

From 1927 until 1930 she taught elementary school near Bottineau, ND. In 1932 she graduated from the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. From 1938 to 1944 Alvida served as a missionary in Columbia, South America under the Celmosa Mission.

On December 3, 1940 she was united in marriage to Trygve Salte in Columbia. After Trygve's death in 1944, she moved to Bear Park township and lived with her parents. In 1951 they moved to Winger where she cared for them until they died. She also worked as a secretary at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine for several years. From 1959 until she retired in 1979, Alvida was the secretary/treasurer for the Latin American Lutheran Mission.

In 1991 she moved to Valley Home in Thief River Falls and resided there until moving to Pioneer Memorial Care Center where she lived until the time of her death.

Alvida is survived by one daughter, Ragnhild (Roy) Olsen of Mt. Arlington, NJ; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman Holmvik of Fertile; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Selmer Myhre and Alton Holmvik; one foster brother, Peder Pederson; and two sisters, Olga Christianson and Marie Schornack.
