Doris Sabo, 79

Warroad - Doris Sabo, 79, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at her home in Warroad.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Reverend John Jorgensen officiating. Sheila Nelson was the organist, and soloists were Deland Elseth and Marilyn Nelson. Casketbearers were Bob Nelson, Bob Dahl, Roger Shelquist, Walter Hellquist, Arlie Burke and Allen Theraldson. Honorary casketbearers were her six grandsons, Mike Peterson, Chad Elseth, Mark Peterson, Travis Elseth, Mac Woods and Landon Sabo.The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Doris Sarah Hove was born on February 1, 1920 in Warren, the daughter of Adolph and Mary (Stark) Hove. She was raised in Warren, confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Warren High School in 1938 as Valdectorian.

On June 14, 1939 she as united in marriage to Harold Sabo in Warren. The couple spent their first seven years in Bremerton, WA. In 1946 they moved to New Solum township of Marshall county where they raised their family and operated a dairy farm for 27 years. In 1972 they moved to Gonvick where they created Associated Investors, a wild rice operation. The couple retired in 1994 and moved to Warroad.

Doris was active in church and school activities, 4-H and a homemakers club. She also served as the clerk of Hangaard township for a number of years.

She enjoyed sewing, baking, arts and crafts, gardening, reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her husband, Harold of Warroad; three sons, Jerry Sabo of Las Vegas, NV and Peter Sabo and Jon (Paulette) Sabo, both of Fargo, ND; four daughters, Joanie Peterson of Grand Forks, ND, Janice Emery of Albuquerque, NM, Joyce (Leon) Elseth of San Antonio, TX and Jane (Chuck) Woods of Albuquerque, NM; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bud Hove of Phoenix, AZ and Ralph Hove of Gig Harbor, WA; and two sisters, Verna Williams of Boulder City, NV and Mary McHugh of Tacoma, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Daniel Sabo in 1986. A00003B1999MR10
