Lyle A. Roue, 83

Fosston - Lyle Roue, 83, died Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 3 at 3 p.m. at the Fosston Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Swenson officiating. Dick Roue presented a recitation. The organist was Jolene Anderson. A saxophone solo was presented by Jill Burggraf. Mark Erickson was the vocal soloist. Casketbearers were Kevin Ryan, Jim Baumgartner, Scott LaVoi, Carson McDonald, Dick Roue and Jim Roue. The flag was presented by Dick Roue and Jim Roue. Interment was in Queen Cemetery, rural Fosston. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lyle Archie Roue was born on June 7, 1915 to Archie and Ellen (Blomdahl) Roue in Rosebud township near Fosston. He grew up and attended country school there. Lyle graduated from Fosston High School in 1933.

On February 8, 1936 he was united in marriage to Martha Mickelson in Bagley. The couple resided in Fosston. Lyle served in the military as a military policeman for one year while stationed in California.

In 1950 the couple moved to Thief River Falls where Lyle worked for Ace Hardware and Holsum Bread Company. They returned to Fosston in 1960, and Lyle opened the R & B Bowling Alley along with his brother-in-law Harris Broin. After operating the bowling alley for a number of years, he went to work for the Sunshine Biscuit Company and later the Polk County Highway Department where he was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator until his retirement.

Lyle was a member of Fosston Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; three daughters, Janice (Jim) Baumgartner of Spring Valley, MI, Julie McDonald of Burnsville, and Debra (Kevin) Ryan of Chaska; two sons, David of Cambridge and Joel (Chrissy) of Fosston; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clifford (Eunice) of Fosston; three aunts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mecca LaVoi and Ethelyn Hamann; and one half-sister, Ercel Ashlock.
