Opal Roisland, 71

Thief River Falls - Opal Roisland, 71, died Friday, August 14, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 18 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Reverend Dennis Raymond officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and Mya Zutz was the soloist. Casketbearers were John Steenerson, Gerald Sorenson, Shane Loeffler, Jason Roisland, Jerrad Roisland and Rick Thune. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Opal Hamernes was born on March 4, 1927 in Holt to Ole and Othilda (Hagen Sjosvold) Hamernes. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in Marshall county. She attended school at the Edgewood School in New Solum township.

In November of 1944 she was united in marriage to Thomas Roisland Sr. at Thief River Falls. Opal raised her family in Thief River Falls and worked for several years at Oakland Park Nursing Home and Northwest Medical Center. During her retirement years she resided at the Skylite Apartments.

Opal is survived by two sons, Thomas Jr. of Minneapolis and Jerry (Arlyce) of Clear Lake; two daughters, Judy (Bob) Loeffler of Thief River Falls and Kathy Aune of Chugiak, AK; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Orvis Hamernes, Pete Sjosvold, Carl Hamernes, and an infant boy Hamernes; and three sisters, Olivia Sorenson, Thelma Steenerson and Pearl Hamernes.
