
Thief River Falls - Elaine Roering, 91, died Monday, November 10, 1997 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 1997 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Pastors Ollie Urdahl and Raynard Huglen officiating. Kathy Rokke was the organist and joined Connie Folden in a duet. The Praise Singers provided additional special music. Casketbearers were Orin Green, Stuart Sethre, Newell Berggren, Reuben Haugen, Raymond Tunheim and Orlin Magner. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Elaine C. Monson was born April 20, 1906 in Sterling township of Blue Earth County to Carl and Emma (Morriem) Monson. She was baptized on May 20, 1906 at Jackson Lake Lutheran Church in Amboy and later confirmed her faith. The family moved to Lake Park and later to Mahnomen where she attended school. She graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1924. She attended Moorhead State University and several summer sessions to obtain her teaching certificate. Elaine taught in several rural schools near Ada, Mahnomen and Ogema.
In 1936 Elaine was united in marriage to Elmer Roering at Sisseton, SD. The couple moved to Karlstad and then to Newfolden in 1941. Elmer died in 1944.
Elaine taught sixth, seventh and eighth grade in the Newfolden School District for 27 years and continued to make her home in Newfolden after retirement. For the past ten years she was a resident of Valley Home and the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center.
Elaine was a charter and present member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden and former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was a member of the ladies aid.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Ella Monson of Minneapolis; and many friends and former students.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three brothers.
