Junes Race, 71

Goodridge - Junes Race, 71, died Sunday, May 21, 2000 at her home in Goodridge township of Pennington county.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Marian Marquis will be the organist, and the soloist will be Vernon Iverson. Casketbearers will be LeRoy Johnson, Harold Holen, Jonathan Presler, Palmer Lovely, Gerry Sunsdahl, Richard Merrill and Collin Race. Interment will be in Ekelund Cemetery in Highlanding township of Pennington county.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 24) with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Junes Alvina Sunsdahl was born on June 23, 1928 in the Highlanding township of Pennington county, the daughter of John and Mary (Rausch) Sunsdahl. She grew up in the Goodridge area, attending a country school and graduating from Goodridge High School. She attended teacher's training in Thief River Falls and taught in area country schools.

On November 27, 1948, Junes was united in marriage to Ernest "Bud" Race at Rosendahl Church. The couple made their home in Goodridge township, and Junes continued to teach at area country schools.

She was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, Star Homemakers club and the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. She held many different offices and also taught Sunday School for many years.

Junes enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, gardening, farming and 4-H activities.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, David and Thomas (Lori), both of Goodridge; two daughters, Cheryl (Dwayne) Presler of Seaford, Va. and Karen Race of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Orvin (Myrtle) Sunsdahl of Goodridge and Junior (Maxine) Sunsdahl of Blaine; and one sister, Diane (Harlan) Sunsdahl of Niellsville, Wisc.

She was preceded in death by parents and one sister, Delores Marquis. A00003B2000MY24
