
Karlstad - Lloyd W. Porter, 89, died Friday, August 22, 1997 at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26 at Collins Funeral Chapel in Karlstad with Pastor Curtis Paulson and Reverend John A. Riveness. Special music was provided by Dion Larson, soloist, and Bev Folland, organist. Lloyd's grandchildren were the casketbearers. Interment was at Karlstad Cemetery. The Collins Funeral Homes of Karlstad, Greenbush and Middle River were in charge of the arrangements.
Lloyd W. Porter was born March 3, 1908 at Hopkinton, IA, the son of Myron J. and Pearl (Beck) Porter. The family lived briefly at Abercrombie, ND prior to moving to the Pelan where Lloyd attended school and grew to manhood. On August 12, 1931, Lloyd was united in marriage to Helen Johnson at Buck Creek, IA. They resided at Fairmont for a short time before moving to Karlstad. Lloyd operated the former Karlstad Dray Line for several years, worked in trucking and held various other employement over the years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had resided at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center since April of this year.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Vern (Lorene) of Karlstad; two daughters, Mavis (Jim) Peterson of Stephen and Ardys (Ben) LaLonde of Coon Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Striemer of Aitkin and Ava Blanchard of Frost Proof, FL; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary in 1989; and one grandson, Gary Jr.
