
Fargo, ND - Isabel Poppen-hagen, 87, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at her home in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Larimore, ND. Interment was in Bellevue Cemetery in Larimore, ND. Brown Funeral Home of Larimore was in charge of the arrangements.
Isabel Gramer was born on March 6, 1911 in Crookston, the daughter of Peter H. and Mary Gramer. She was a graduate of Mount St. Benedict Academy and Hughes Business College, both in Crookston.
Isabel worked as a secretary at Crookston Granite Company for several years. After her marriage to Peter Poppenhagen, the couple lived in Northwood, ND where they owned and operated the Northwood Cleaners and also managed the Larimore Cleaners.
She worked for the DuPont Company in New Jersey while her husband Peter was in the U.S. Army E.T.O. during World War II. In 1947 Isabel and Peter returned to Larimore where they owned and operated the Larimore Cleaners and Laundromat.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years and was a member of the Driscoll Circle. She was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a past president. Isabel received a national award for her column, "Safely Sue Says," in the Larimore Pioneer. She was a charter member of the Larimore Moderns Homemakers Club and a charter member of the Larimore Museum and Historical Association.
In 1996, the couple moved to Riverview Place in Fargo, ND.
Isabel is survived by her husband, Peter in Fargo, ND; one son, Byron (Sheila) Poppenhagen of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
