Violet Poole, 80

Alexandria - Violet Poole, 80, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at Glenwood Retirement Center in Glenwood.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, July 3 at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church of Villard with Reverend Joseph Vandeberg officiating. Music was provided by Lynn Lynch, organist, and Carol Hughes, soloist. Casketbearers were James Logan, Tim Hince, Roger Logan, Bernie Freske, Harlan Kremer and Willard Hince. Interment took place on Monday, July 6 in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Watertown, SD. The Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria was in charge of the arrangements.

Violet Bernice Brew was born on August 16, 1917 at Hallock, the daughter of William and Mabel (Soderfelt) Brew. She was raised in Drayton, ND where she attended school. She then worked at the farm home of her aunt and uncle, Frieda and Alfred Soderfelt.

On October 17, 1935 Violet and John Poole were united in marriage at Grafton, ND. The couple operated a tavern in Red Lake Falls before moving to Watertown, SD where they were involved in mobile home sales. Following John's death in 1970, Violet moved to Villard where she joined her son, Doug, in operating a liquor store. She retired in 1977 and lived in Thief River Falls for two years before moving to Bethel Manor in Alexandria. She was also a resident of Knute Nelson Home and the Glenwood Retirement Village.

Violet enjoyed many activities including fishing, dancing, playing cards, traveling and doing embroidery. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting with people. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the women's group at St. Bartholomew Church in Villard.

Violet is survived by two sons, Doug (Dee) Poole of Alexandria and John Poole of Corpus Christi, TX; four daughters, Joyce (Roger) Logan of Lowry, Betty (Bernie) Freske of Ottertail, Gloria (Harlan) Kremer of Hastings and Shirley (Willard) Hince of Thief River Falls; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Maude Erhardt of Los Angeles, CA, Mabel Olson of Drayton, ND, Dolly (Bob) Elliot of Riverton, WY and Verna (Howard) Mack of Granite Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Earl Brew; two sisters, Ella Poole and Vivian Carlson; and one granddaughter, Linda Hince.
