
Plummer - Walter Polson, 79, of Plummer died Friday, July 18, 1997 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, 1997 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Reverend Clarence Johnson officiating. The organist was Linda Johnson, and Don Wahlbeck was the soloist. Casketbearers were Alvin Johnson, Don Fox, Richard Froiland, Roy Westlake, Gene Polson and Art Fossum. Honorary casketbearers were Art Froiland, Pen Milligan, Lawrence Carpenter, Leonard and Robert Niemi. Burial was at Emardville Cemetery, Emardville township, Red Lake County. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Water Alvin Polson was born May 26, 1918 in Emardville township, Red Lake County the son of Ben and Mary (Peterson) Polson. He attended the Cloverland School, rural Plummer, and farmed in Emardville township.
On September 14, 1936 Walter was united in marriage to Hannah Huggett at Oklee. In July, 1945, he began a blacksmith business which he operated until 1994. Hannah died in 1974. He married Mary Beth Struthers on September 2, 1989 at Red Lake Falls. The couple made their home in Plummer and wintered in Lake Wales, FL.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He also served on the Plummer City Council, fire department and was City Clerk for many years. Walter enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, hunting, repairing things for people and watching baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth; one daughter, Charlotte (Roger) Skjerven of Plummer; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; step children, Lewis (Virginia) Struthers of Parkers Prairie, Julia (Ken) Christianson of Fargo, ND, Lorna (Gerald) Schlichtmann of Red Lake Falls, Glenn Struthers of Red Lake Falls and Alden (Lotta Kay) of Lake Wales, FL; 15 step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his first wife, Hannah; his parents; brothers, John Polson, Henry Polson and Francis Polson; sisters Signa Smith, Esther Miller, Mabel Polson, Katrina Mykleby and Alfrieda "Frieda" Niemi.
