Lawrence Plante, 62

Oklee - Lawrence "Whitey" Plante, 62, died Friday, October 9, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m . today (Wednesday, October 14) at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with Reverend Joe Richards officiating. Barb Melby will be the organist, and special music will be provided by Lori Melby and Carolyn Rystad. Casketbearers will be George Olson, Jim Bendickson, Milo Sandeen, Ordean Nelson, Norman Nelson and Pete Plante. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Wake service on Tuesday at the Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services today.

Lawrence Russell Plante was born on September 28, 1936 in Oklee, the son of Samuel and Mable (Boucher) Plante. He was raised in Oklee and attended school there. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Whitey worked at Alvin Jensen Mink Ranch in Oklee and Lois Jensen Eck Mink Ranch until retiring due to illness in 1997. He enjoyed visiting with friends, riding in the country, listening to country music and inventing different things to make his work easier.

Survivors include one sister, Gladys of Oklee; and five brothers, Vern and Clarence of Oklee, Bernard ("Pete") of Warroad, and Adelore ("Dewey") and Stephen of South Milwaukee, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and two brothers, an infant and Leonard in April, 1998.
