
Thief River Falls - Florence Pierce, 86, died Tuesday, August 17, 1999 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Casketbearers will be Florence's grandsons, Mark Gerardy, Brian Gerardy, Bruce Gerardy, Timothy Morrison, Tom Morrison, Trent Morrison, Todd Morrison, Troy Pierce, Chad Pierce and Michael Vigstol. Honorary casketbearers will be her granddaughters, Michelle Morrison, Renae Hoard, Kristi LaSalle, Teresa Parson, Rachelle Herman, Jovanae Hauschild and Patrice O'Brien. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 20 at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Florence Nelson was born on September 14, 1912 near Viking, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Peterson) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and attended country school.
Florence worked at various places in Thief River Falls, including the Rex Cafe, Land O'Lakes, Oakland Park Nursing Home and the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center as a nurse's aid. She was united in marriage to Harold Pierce. During her last years, Florence resided at Skylite Apartments, Valley Home and the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting and making rugs. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in its circle.
Florence is survived by three daughters, Celeste (Ronald) Gerardy of Thief River Falls, Arlys (Dennis) Morrison of Askov, and Valerie (Richard) Vigstol of Anoka; one son, James (Romona) Pierce of Waconia; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1961; her parents; three grandchildren, Robbie Vigstol, Denise Morrison and Travis Morrison; six brothers, Carl, Henry, Oscar, Clarence, Ernest and Reuben; two sisters, Myrtle and Doris; and several nieces and nephews. A00003B1999AG18
