Julia Philion, 90

Red Lake Falls - Julia "Jay" Philion, 90, of Red Lake Falls died Thursday, November 11, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, November 15 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father John Kleinwachter officiating. Kathie Knott was the organist, and special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Casketbearers were Steve Philion, Robert Philion, Bill Philion, John Solheim, Roger Eckstein and Jim LaCoursiere. Interment was in St. Joseph's Church Cemetery in Red Lake Falls. The Petterson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Julia Elizabeth Dentz was born on April 27, 1909 in Mahnomen, the daughter of Robert and Ellen Jane (Leith) Dentz. She was raised in Mahnomen where she was baptized on May 23, 1909. She attended rural school.

She was married to Archie McDougall in Mahnomen. He passed away.

In June of 1938, Julia was united in marriage to Lawrence Philion at Red Lake Falls. The couple made their home in Red Lake Falls where she worked at St. John's Hospital. Lawrence died on February 16, 1980. Julia lived at Sunset Court in Red Lake Falls before entering the Hillcrest Nursing Home on September 22, 1996. Since April of 1999 she has resided at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Julia enjoyed cooking and baking, crocheting, knitting, decorating for weddings, working with wildflowers and drawing.

She was an active member of the garden club, Royal Neighbors, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, St. Joseph's Guild and the Catholic Foresters.

Julia is survived by one daughter, Dorie Ann (Joseph) Souto of Thief River Falls; three sons, Clinton McDougall of Henderson, NV, Marlin (Pat) McDougall of Castro Valley, CA and Conrad (Barbara) McDougall of Fridley; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; one son, Jerry in 1972; and eight brothers, Robert Dentz, Albert Dentz, Herbert Dentz, Levi Dentz, Lawrence Dentz, infant Guy Dentz, Richard Dentz and Ernest Dentz. A00003B1999NV17
