
St.
Hilaire - Robert D. Peterson, 65, and Maxine H. Peterson, 59,
died Sunday, November 21, 1999 in Pennington county as the result of
an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, November 24) at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Merrill Kindall officiating. Helen Dahlstrom will be the organist, and the soloist will be Ken Wiggs. Casketbearers will be Howard Dalager, Cecil Anderson, Jerry Hasnedl, Robert Miller, Earl Hoefer, Vernon Konickson, Merle Gustafson, Harvey Hanson, Ed Nichols, Wayne Johnson and Orrin Linder. Honorary casketbearers were Ron Hink, Marv Bannerman and all of the couple's friends from Carol's Cafe. Burial will be in Clara Lutheran Cemetery in River Falls township of Pennington county.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Robert D. Peterson was born on November 4, 1934 in Sanders township of Pennington county, the son of H. Arthur and Esther (Anderson) Peterson. He grew up and attended school in St. Hilaire. After his dad became ill, Robert stayed home and helped on the family farm.
Maxine Harriet Lunke was born on November 16, 1940 in Holt, the daughter of Oscar and Olive (Moberg) Lunke. She grew up and attended school in Holt. The family moved to Plummer where she graduated in 1958. She received normal teacher's training in Thief River Falls and later went to Mayville, ND. She taught for a short while at Erie, near Goodridge and also at Twin Valley.
Robert and Maxine were married on December 30, 1961 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer. They made their home on the farm in River Falls township near St. Hilaire and also in Twin Valley. Maxine did some substitute teaching in Plummer. They farmed their dairy and grain farm together.
Robert and Maxine attended the Evangelical Covenant Church and were members of the Lake Region Pioneer Farmers and Farmers Union.
Robert enjoyed collecting old tractors, participating in tractor pulls and tinkering on his tractors in the shed.
Maxine was a member of the Early Bird Homemakers Group, Christian Womens Club and Covenant Women Ministries. She was a crafter and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing and cross-stitching. She enjoyed cats, and she and her husband both enjoyed animals.
Together, they enjoyed Sunday drives, logging thousands of miles. They especially enjoyed their coffee time at Carol's Cafe, seven days a week.
Robert and Maxine are survived by their two sons, Neil and Scott (Marcia), both of St. Hilaire; five grandchildren; Maxine's mother, Olive Lunke of Thief River Falls; and her brother, Orvis Lunke of Hovland.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Alma Peterson. Maxine was preceded in death by her father.
